Model Line:
Panamera (971)
Model Year:
As of 2017 up to 2021
Concerns:
Additional pump for air conditioning control
Information:
On the affected vehicles, there is a possibility of moisture getting into the control unit for the additional pump of the climate control system and causing malfunctions in the temperature control of the interior and when the engine residual heat function is activated.
Over the service life of the vehicles, such malfunctions can lead to short circuits and promote visible damage to the additional pump successively to the plug connection of the wiring harness. As damage progresses, an unnoticed short circuit can lead to an increased risk of scorching and even fire. Activating the AUTO-REST button in the center console can cause fire damage even longer after stopping the vehicle.
Action required:
Replace additional pump for air conditioning control and check plug connection and replace if necessary.
Affected Vehicles:
Only vehicles assigned to the campaign (see also PCSS Vehicle Information).
Chronology :
December 2022 until January 2023:
On Dec. 6th, 2022, Porsche
was informed of a potential malfunction of the electric external coolant pump for climate control.
As part of the subsequent analysis, Porsche
reviewed whether there are any possible market-specific influences (e.g. temperatures, corrosive medium, special driving/customer behavior etc.).
In addition, an in-depth field analysis was carried out and a very small number of instances of thermal damage possibly attributable to this issue were identified.
On January 20th, 2023, Porsche
has determined a safety defect and decided to recall the subject vehicles.
Upon review of field information available in the U.S. market, Porsche
identified 27 warranty claims attributable to the subject issue. These warranty claims occurred between April 2019 and April of 2022. Porsche
also identified one thermal incident potentially attributable to the subject issue. Porsche
is not aware of any reports of deaths or injuries associated with this issue.

VIN Range 1 : Begin : WP0CB2A76ML189062 End : WP0CB2A76ML189062 Not sequential Description of Defect :
Description of the Defect : On the affected vehicles, there is a possibility of humidity ingress into the external coolant pump for the climate control system. This could cause a short circuit and, in some instances, thermal damage to the external coolant pump. In rare circumstances, the thermal damage to the harness could progress if left unnoticed and result in vehicle fire.
FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR
Description of the Safety Risk : If unnoticed thermal damage progresses, it can lead to an increased risk of a vehicle fire.
Description of the Cause : Humidity ingress can lead to a short circuit and, in some instances, thermal damage to the external coolant pump. Identification of Any Warning
that can Occur : If a short circuit occurs while the vehicle is on, customer would notice a malfunction of the climate control system. Additionally, the subject vehicles are equipped with engine residual heat The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-033 Page 12 function (AUTO-REST), which can be activated when the engine is shut off and the vehicle is parked for a period of up to 20 minutes. In this instance, customers may not get a warning of the potential short circuit and thermal damage to the external pump. Involved Components : Component Name 1 : External coolant pump
Component Description : External coolant pump provides engine coolant flow for the climate control system.

Address : Anne-Frank-Str. 33-35
Nürnberg Foreign States 90459 Country : Germany Chronology :
December 2022 until January 2023: On Dec. 6th, 2022, Porsche was informed of a potential malfunction of the electric external coolant pump for climate control.
As part of the subsequent analysis, Porsche reviewed whether there are any possible market-specific influences (e.g. temperatures, corrosive medium, special driving/customer behavior etc.). In addition, an in-depth field analysis was carried out and a very small number of instances of thermal damage possibly attributable to this issue were identified. On January 20th, 2023, Porsche has determined a safety defect and decided to recall the subject vehicles. The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-033

Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : The external coolant pump will be replaced by a variant (from another
supplier) with an optimized sealing concept. The plug-in connection will be inspected for damage and replaced if necessary.
Customers who have previously paid for this repair will be reimbursed. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The external coolant pump will be replaced by a variant (from another supplier) with an optimized sealing concept.
The new pump is from supplier Pierburg with a new part number. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Vehicles outside of the recall population were equipped with a different external coolant pump that was adopted in production in mid-2021. Recall Schedule :
Description of Recall Schedule : Customers will be notified of this Recall by mail within 60 days of the
filing of this report.

Upon review of field information available in the U.S. market, Porsche identified 27 warranty claims attributable to the subject issue. These warranty claims occurred between April 2019 and April of 2022. Porsche also identified one thermal incident potentially attributable to the subject issue.
