Improperly Secured Windows May Detach
During air bag deployment, an unsecured windshield may not support the front air bags as intended, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Summary
Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling certain 2020-2024 911 vehicles. The front windshield and rear window may not be properly secured and can detach.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the windshield and rear window as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 26, 2024. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243. Porsche’s number for this recall is ARA3.

Chronology :
November 16, 2023, Porsche was informed about optically impaired windows in the field.
First analysis revealed that residues of salt bath in the primer area may have prevented proper adhesion to the glass. Inadequate cleaning after chemical treatment in potassium salt bath was identified as the possible cause.
Further field analysis did not reveal any accidents or injuries, but 15 warranty claims concerning cloudy surfaces or other optical deficiencies. A lack of adhesion of the windshield to the body was never observed by a customer.

Description of the Defect : On the affected vehicles, it is possible that the front and rear windows were not manufactured in accordance with the specifications and therefore not bonded sufficiently to the body.

Description of the Safety Risk : Under certain conditions, the lightweight glass may become partially
detached over the service life of the vehicle. This may be perceived as water ingress or wind noise (or both).
In an accident situation where the front airbags are deployed, it cannot be guaranteed that the proportion of correct bonding is sufficient to achieve the full protective effect of the airbags. This could increase the risk of injuries in a crash.
Description of the Cause : Cleaning process sequence was not carried out properly by the supplier.

Between December 2023 and January 2024, the potential harm hypothesis that an unclean bonding surface may lead to insufficient adhesion around the camera mounting plate / mirror base and the window bonding had to be analyzed. Testing of an affected vehicle revealed insufficient adhesion of the windscreen to the body of the vehicle. On February 21, 2024, Porsche determined a safety defect and decided to recall the subject vehicles.
Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : The front and rear window must be checked and replaced if necessary.
The owner’s letter will advise that Porsche offers a reimbursement for pre-notification remedies in accordance with 49 CFR 573.13 How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The new components have undergone additional abrasive cleaning. The supplier stated the following remedial action:
Additional abrasive cleaning of the glass using pumice powder. The effectiveness of the additional cleaning process has been proven in the laboratory using test windows. Recall Schedule :

Please be advised that the Check Instructions are now available for vehicles affected by the ARA3 Stop
Delivery. If the vehicle passes the check, it can be sold after the warranty claim is paid and campaign is closed.
Please note that if the vehicle fails the check, your Porsche Center must wait for the official TI and further parts
ordering instructions, which are not expected for several weeks.
The Check Instructions are attached below only and will not be available in PCSS.

PORSCHE CENTERS SHOULD NOT SELL, LEASE, RENT, OR LOAN ANY NEW OR USED VEHICLES IN
DEALER INVENTORY AFFECTED BY THIS NOTIFICATION PRIOR TO REMEDY. DEALERS GROUNDING
LEASE RETURNS SHOULD REMEDY ALL AFFECTED GROUNDED VEHICLES.
Any vehicles delivered to customers before this announcement may be released from Stop Delivery
by sending a PRMS Warranty / Campaigns Ticket to Mitchell Grasser. The ticket must have proper
documentation of the sale / delivery.
