The wiring harness may be damaged and could affect the supplemental restraint system (air bags, seat belt pre-t:msioners), causing the red air bag warning light to illuminate. What will Porsche do? What should you do? You can continue to use your vehicle until the remedy has been carried out. If your vehicle has the red airbag warning light illuminated, please reach out to your Porsche Dealer immediately. Do not cut the lines too short in case they have to be laid in a different position if there is insufficient space in the area of the joint. Information The greatest caremust be used in the individualwork steps for stripping insulation from, crimping, and shrinking/insulating the electrical wires. The procedure for stripping insulation from, crimping, and shrinking/insulating the electrical wires must be complied with and observed. Crimping samples must be prepared before beginning work. Work Procedure: 1 If one or more electric lines are cut on the wiring harness or if the insulation is damaged, the relevant section of the electric line must be repaired. 1.1 To do this, cut out the damaged area of the electric lines. If this damage occurs, there is potential for components of the supplemental restraint system to malfunction and deactivate. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : If the wire harness becomes damaged, there is potential for components of the supplemental restraint system to malfunction and deactivate. If this occurs, a red air bag warning lamp would be illuminated as designed to alert the operator. However, if components of the supplemental restraint system are deactivated, this could increase the risk of an injury in a crash. Description of the Cause : The wire harness fabric sheath could be pulled into the drive spindle of the seat adjuster during longitudinal adjustment. While this is likely to only damage the sheath, in rare instances, this could cause seat wire harness damage. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : Customers may experience seat adjustment malfunction, or abnormal noise during adjustment. If the occupant restraint system is affected, a RED air bag warning lamp will illuminate. No wire harness damage was reported at that time. Porsche began to monitor for additional complaints related to the subject issue. Between January 2022 and April 2022 additional field analysis identified 3 instances (outside of United States) of wire harness damage resulting in the activation of the RED air bag warning lamp. While Porsche is not aware of any injuries associated with this issue, on April 20, 2022 Porsche decided to conduct a Safety Recall as a precautionary measure. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The seat wire harness will be inspected for damage. Textile fabric tape will be added to further secure the harness under the seat and help prevent potential for harness damage during seat adjustment. If only the fabric covering of the wiring harness is damaged, the loose fibers will be removed and the damaged area will be covered with a fabric tape. If electrical wires are damaged, the affected wires will be repaired according to the procedures in the workshop manual The owner’s letter will not include a statement about customer reimbursement for pre-notification remedies as all of the affected vehicles are still covered under Porsche New Car Limited Warranty. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The subject component will be further secured with a textile fabric tape to help prevent potential for harness damage during seat adjustment. If this damage occurs, there is potential for components of the supplemental restraint system to malfunction and deactivate. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : If the wire harness becomes damaged, there is potential for components of the supplemental restraint system to malfunction and deactivate. If this occurs, a red air bag warning lamp would be illuminated as designed to alert the operator. However, if components of the supplemental restraint system are deactivated, this could increase the risk of an injury in a crash. Description of the Cause : The wire harness fabric sheath could be pulled into the drive spindle of the seat adjuster during longitudinal adjustment. While this is likely to only damage the sheath, in rare instances, this could cause seat wire harness damage.
