If this occurs, depending on the specific orientation of the misrouted harness, the vehicle may not meet the requirements specified in S9.3 of FMVSS No. 225. FMVSS 1 : 225 – Child restraint anchorage systems FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : Potential for noncompliance with S9.3 of FMVSS No. 225. Description of the Cause : Assembly variability caused by harness length and lack of positioning aid resulted in the possibility that the wiring harness for the center rear seat buckle was routed incorrectly in certain rare instances. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : If the harness is misrouted and passes in the location of the inboard LATCH anchor, it would be noticeable that the CRS cannot be latched to that anchor. Porsche implemented production countermeasures to help prevent the issue from recurring and began an investigation into scope and potential effects of the issue. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-100 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Between August and December 2021, Porsche implemented port inspections and field monitoring. While Porsche was not aware any field complaints associated with the issue, port inspection suggested that 2% of the vehicles subject to this notice could exhibit some form of harness misrouting. Concurrent engineering analysis indicated that if the harness interfered with the LATCH anchor, the issue would be clearly observable by a consumer on affected vehicles. Based on this assessment, coupled with the variability of the potential consequences of harness misrouting, Porsche initially decided to conduct a Service Campaign. However, Porsche then decided to further study the effect of the subject issue on compliance with S9.3 of FMVSS No. 225. Throughout this time, Porsche continued field monitoring and was not aware of any warranty claims, customer complaints, or injuries associated with this issue. Upon further consideration, on February 16, 2022, Porsche decided that, depending on the specific orientation of the misrouted harness, the vehicle may not meet the requirements specified in S9.3 of FMVSS No. 225. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Porsche dealers will inspect the harness positioning and secure it to help potential for interference with the inboard LATCH anchor of the rear passenger side outboard seat. The owner’s letter will not include a statement about customer reimbursement for pre-notification remedies as all of the affected vehicles are still covered under Porsche New Car Limited Warranty. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The wiring harness will be correctly routed and secured to avoid potential for interference with the inboard LATCH anchor of the rear passenger side outboard seat.
