Summary
Porsche
Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche
) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Taycan vehicles equipped with an optional rear center seat. The center seat belt buckle wiring harness may obstruct access to the right rear seat lower child seat anchors, preventing a child seat from being properly secured. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 225, “Child Restraint Anchorage Systems.”
Remedy
Dealers will reroute and secure the center rear seat belt buckle wiring harness and, as necessary, replace a damaged buckle, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 7, 2022. Owners may contact Porsche
customer service at 1-800-767-7243. Porsche
’s number for this recall is ANA4.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Issue Description
On the affected vehicles, there is a possibility of an issue with the passenger side rear seat inboard LATCH anchor that will require an inspection.
What Should Dealers Do?
Please do not deliver the subject vehicles until remedy instructions are distributed.
What will Porsche
Do?
Additional information will be provided as soon as possible.
Chronology :
In late July, 2021, Porsche
identified a manufacturing variability in the positioning of the wiring harness attached to the center rear seat belt buckle.
Porsche
implemented production countermeasures to help prevent the issue from recurring and began an investigation into scope and potential effects of the issue.
Between August and December 2021, Porsche
implemented port inspections and field monitoring. While Porsche
was not aware any field complaints associated with the issue, port inspection suggested that 2% of the vehicles subject to this notice could exhibit some form of harness misrouting.
Concurrent engineering analysis indicated that if the harness interfered with the LATCH anchor, the issue would be clearly observable by a consumer on affected vehicles. Based on this assessment, coupled with the variability of the potential consequences of harness misrouting, Porsche
initially decided to conduct a Service Campaign. However, Porsche
then decided to further study the effect of the subject issue on compliance with S9.3 of FMVSS No. 225.
Throughout this time, Porsche
continued field monitoring and was not aware of any warranty claims, customer complaints, or injuries associated with this issue.
Upon further consideration, on February 16, 2022, Porsche
decided that, depending on the specific orientation of the misrouted harness, the vehicle may not meet the requirements specified in S9.3 of FMVSS No. 225.
