Production Dates : JAN 12, 2022 – MAY 25, 2023 VIN Range 1 : Begin : WP0AC2A98NS269475 End : WP0AC2A90PS270882 Not sequential Description of Noncompliance : Description of the Noncompliance : The subject vehicles are equipped with a main Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) designed to activate when the rear spoiler is in a retracted position, and an auxiliary CHMSL designed to activate when the rear spoiler is deployed. The spoiler deploys automatically at predetermined speeds. However, the driver can also manually deploy the spoiler at lower speeds. On the affected vehicles, both CHMSLs are activated in tandem only when the rear spoiler is manually deployed at speeds below 90 km/h. FMVSS 1 : 108 – Lamps, reflective devices, and assoc. Equipment FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : Simultaneous activation of two CHMSLs may be confusing to operators of vehicles behind the subject vehicle which may increase the risk of rear-end crashes. Porsche reviewed the effect of the subject issue on compliance with FMVSS No. 108 and concurrently identified the number of potentially affected vehicles. June 21, 2023 – Porsche determined that the subject issue was a noncompliance with FMVSS No. 108. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The rear spoiler control unit will be reprogrammed with a new data set. The owner’s letter will not include a statement about customer reimbursement for pre-notification remedies as all of the affected vehicles are still covered under Porsche New Car Limited Warranty. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The updated data set prevents both CHMSLs from illuminating in tandem when the rear spoiler is extended manually. Technical Information Service 93/23 ENU APA8 9 APA8 – Re-Coding Rear Spoiler Control Unit (Stop Delivery / Recall Campaign) Important: Model Year: Model Line: Concerns: Cause: Action: Affected Vehicles: CRITICAL WARNING -This campaign includes steps where control unit(s) in the vehicle will be programmed with the PIWIS Tester. The vehicle voltage must be maintained between 13.5 volts and 14.5 volts during this programming. Failure to maintain this voltage could result in damaged control unit(s). Damage caused by inadequate voltage during programming is not a warrantable defect. The technician must verify the actual vehicle voltage in the PIWIS Tester before starting the campaign and also document the actual voltage on the repair order. As of 2022 up to 2023 911 GT3 with Touring Package (992) Control unit for rear spoiler Due to a software error in the rear spoiler control unit, both auxiliary brake lights are activated under certain preconditions. This activation logic does not comply with legal requirements. Re-code the rear spoiler control unit using the most current PIWIS Tester software release. As part of recurring and ongoing quality checks, we discovered that the third brake lights on certain 911 GT3 models equipped with the Touring Package, which are designed to activate in a specific manner depending on the position of the retractable rear spoiler, do not meet the current regulation for activation. The software controlling the brake lights will be reprogrammed, and customers will be informed of this procedure, which will be carried out free of charge by an authorized Porsche Center, in due course.
