Unintentional Rollaway Due to Detached Shift Cable
If the vehicle is exited without the transmission being in Park and without the parking brake being applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary
Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling certain 2003-2006 Cayenne S, Cayenne Turbo, 2004-2010 Cayenne, 2006 Cayenne Turbo S, 2010-2016 Panamera S, Panamera 4 S, Panamera Turbo, 2011-2016 Panamera, Panamera 4, 2012-2013 Panamera Turbo S, 2013-2016 Panamera 4 GTS, 2014-2016 Panamera 4 S Executive, Panamera Turbo Executive, Panamera Turbo S G1 II, Panamera Turbo S Executive, 2013 Panamera 4 Platinum Edition, Panamera Platinum Edition, 2016 Panamera 4 Edition, Panamera Edition, Panamera Turbo S Executive Luxury Sports vehicles.
The bushing that attaches the gear selector lever to the gearbox may degrade over time, causing the bushing to detach. This condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to Park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in Park, with no warning message or audible chime.
Remedy
Porsche will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing, free of charge. Owners are instructed to use the parking brake until their vehicle is repaired. The recall began August 9, 2019. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243. Porsche’s number for this recall is AKB1.

| Information: | Due to insufficient strength of the material of a plastic bushing for the selector lever cable, the durability of the cable cannot be guaranteed over the service life of the vehicle.
If the plastic bushing breaks, the resulting play can result in an impaired connection between the selector lever and transmission. As a result, the transmission range selected may not be correctly engaged. |
| Remedial Action: | Replace plastic bushing on selector lever cable with an optimised plastic bushing. |

Replacing plastic bushing on the selector lever cable (Cayenne)
Work Procedure:
1 Raise the vehicle on a lifting platform ⇒ Workshop Manual ‘4X00IN Lifting the vehicle’.
2 Move selector lever to position “D”.
2.1 Insert ignition key into the ignition lock.
2.2 Actuate the service brake.
2.3 Start the engine.
2.4 Move selector lever to position “D”. “D” appears in the instrument cluster.
2.5 Switch off engine.
CAUTION

⇒ Let hot components cool down.
⇒ Wear personal protective gear.
3 Disengage selector lever cable at the transmission lever.
3.1 Cayenne Turbo only: Remove heat shield on the transmission. To do this, unscrew three fastening screws ⇒ Heat shield on transmission, left -arrow-.
3.2 Remove tab washer ⇒ Connecting selector lever cable to transmission -A- on the cable.
3.3 Detach selector lever cable from the ball joint using VAS 6933 – disassembly tool.
4 Replace plastic bushing on the selector lever cable.
4.1 Guide selector lever cable ⇒ Disengaging selector lever cable -1- past the left side of the transmission ⇒ Disengaging selector lever cable -2- (⇒ Disengaging selector lever cable -arrow-) and pull it to the rear towards the transmission support.
4.2 Cut off plastic bushing ⇒ Removing plastic bushing -1- at the pendulum joint ⇒ Removing plastic bushing -2- using a utility knife on the side of the opening as shown.
4.3 Press plastic bushing out of the pendulum joint.
4.4 Clean the bore on the pendulum joint ⇒ Cleaning bore on pendulum joint -arrow-thoroughly using a clean, lint-free cloth.
4.5 Coat new plastic bushing all the way around with grease ⇒ Coating bore and new plastic bushing -1-. Make sure that no grease gets into the inner area of the plastic bushing.
4.6 Coat all around the bore on the pendulum joint ⇒ Coating bore and new plastic bushing -2- lightly with grease.
4.7 To protect against damage to the plastic bushing, wrap adhesive tape around both gripping jaws of a water pump pliers.
4.8 Get a second person to hold the pendulum joint while you align the plastic bushing parallel to the bore and position it flush on the bore on the pendulum joint. Then, press in the plastic bushing evenly using the water pump pliers ⇒ Pressing in new plastic bushing -3- (⇒ Pressing in new plastic bushing).
Before pressing it in, check that the plastic bushing is not tilted. If it is, stop pressing and re-position the plastic bushing.
4.9 After pressing in the plastic bushing, check that it is fitted correctly and align the sealing lip using a plastic wedgeChecking and cleaning all the way around if necessary. If the plastic bushing that is installed shows signs of damage, it must be replaced by a new one.
4.10 Clean the plastic bushing ⇒ Checking and cleaning all the way around -1- to remove all grease residue using a clean lint-free cloth.
5 Engage selector lever cable at the transmission lever.
5.1 Press in plastic bushing on the selector lever cable at the transmission lever ⇒ Connecting selector lever cable to transmission -arrow-.
5.2 Push on tab washer ⇒ Connecting selector lever cable to transmission -A- on the cable holder on the transmission side.
5.3 Cayenne Turbo only: Install heat shield on transmission. To do this, screw in and tighten three fastening screws ⇒ Heat shield on transmission, left -Arrows-.
Information
Make sure that the tab washer was installed correctly.
If necessary, loosen the fastening screws, adjust the tab washer to the correct position and re-tighten the fastening screws.
6 Lower the vehicle and remove it from the lifting platform.
7 Enter the campaign in the Warranty and Maintenance booklet.

3.2 Press the pendulum joint on the selector lever cable upwards and pull it to the rear and out of the support ⇒ Pulling out selector lever cable.
4 Replace plastic bushing on the selector lever cable
4.1 Guide selector lever cableDisengaging selector lever cable -1- past the left side of the transmission ⇒ Disengaging selector lever cable -2- (⇒ Disengaging selector lever cable -arrow-) and pull it to the rear towards the transmission support.

7 Enter the campaign in the Warranty and Maintenance booklet.
