Insufficient Sealant on High-Voltage Battery
Liquid accumulation in the high voltage battery can cause electrical arcing, increasing the risk of a fire.

Summary
Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling certain 2023 Taycan, Taycan 4S, Taycan Turbo S, Taycan Turbo, Taycan GTS, Taycan 4 Cross Turismo, Taycan 4S Cross Turismo, Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo, Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo, and Taycan GTS Sport Turismo vehicles. The high-voltage battery may have an insufficient amount of sealant, which can allow liquid to accumulate in the battery.
Remedy
Dealers will test the battery for leakage and replace the battery as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 31, 2023. Owners may contact Porsche’s customer service at 1-800-767-7243. Porsche’s number for this recall is APB2.

Chronology :
Beginning in 2022 Porsche became aware of a limited number of non-U.S. field cases involving reduced insulation resistance values, some of which indicated liquid intrusion into the battery. None of these incidents resulted in a fire or thermal event of Porsche vehicles. In September 2022 a Teroson sealant was incorporated into the battery production process for Taycan vehicles in an effort to increase battery sealing robustness.
In March 2023 Porsche began receiving reports of reduced insulation resistance values in vehicles with the Teroson sealant outside of the U.S., and in April 2023 one incident in the U.S. was reported.
Porsche continued investigating the cause of the liquid intrusion and concluded that a further enhanced Teroson sealant should be added to the battery. The enhanced Teroson sealant was added in May 2023 in the production process of the supplier. There have been no reports of liquid intrusion in vehicles with the enhanced Teroson sealant added.
Porsche continued to receive reports of reduced insulation resistance values in vehicles with the original Teroson sealant. In July and August 2023 two additional U.S. incidents were reported. These incidents were reported when reduced insulation resistance values lead to warning messages displayed in the vehicle causing vehicle owners to bring their vehicles to workshops for repair, at which time liquid in the battery was detected. None of these incidents involved a fire or thermal event. On August 25, 2023, in an abundance of caution Porsche has determined to conduct a recall of these vehicles with the original Teroson sealant.

In March 2023 Porsche began receiving reports of reduced insulation resistance values in vehicles with the Teroson sealant outside of the U.S., and in April 2023 one incident in the U.S. was reported. Porsche continued investigating the cause of the liquid intrusion and concluded that a further enhanced Teroson sealant should be added to the battery. The enhanced Teroson sealant was added in May 2023 in the production process of the supplier. There have been no reports of liquid intrusion in vehicles with the enhanced Teroson sealant added. Porsche continued to receive reports of reduced insulation resistance values in vehicles with the original Teroson sealant. In July and August 2023 two additional U.S. incidents were reported. These incidents were reported when reduced insulation resistance values lead to warning messages displayed in the vehicle causing vehicle owners to bring their vehicles to workshops for repair, at which time liquid in the battery was detected. None of these incidents involved a fire or thermal event. On August 25, 2023, in an abundance of caution Porsche has determined to conduct a recall of these vehicles with the original Teroson sealant. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-615 Page 6 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Porsche will conduct leak testing to detect the potential for leakage into the battery. If testing indicates the potential for leakage, the battery will be replaced. The owner’s letter will not include a statement about customer reimbursement for pre-notification remedies as all of the affected vehicles are still covered under Porsche New Car Limited Warranty. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The remedy component includes an enhanced Teroson sealant. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The enhanced Teroson sealant was incorporated into battery production in May 2023. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : Owner’s will be notified of the Recall within 60 days of the filing of this report. If no remedy is available at that time, an interim notification will be sent, followed by a final remedy notification when the remedy becomes available.
